"Jab We Met" is so refreshing

I've certainly got to admit that I am not a Kareena Kapoor fan. How I remember blowing my top watching her over-the-top act in "Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham"! But her performance in "Jab we Met" is so endearing that I've already watched the movie a couple of times over the weekend. With each passing moment, she makes you hope that someday, somewhere you could meet a girl so pure at heart! Her portrayal of Geet is almost near perfect, so much so that you cannot think of anyone else in her place!

And one genuinely hopes that Imtiaz Ali is here to stay... He seems a filmmaker so fresh out of the hari-bhari fields of Punjab that I ran to the DVD store to pick up his other movie "Socha Na Tha" immediately on watching this...

The story, especially pre-interval, moves on so refreshingly, that you only wish it had lasted longer! The scene where the lead couple book the room for 'teen ghante' is quite a laugh-riot. Even the first scene where Kareena's character (Geet) manages to keep her record of not missing a train till-date stands fresh in memory for her sheer characterization.

Somewhere, I started wondering why there's so much of comparison with DDLJ... because, but for the fields (Punjab) and the train, nothing else seemed likewise between the two.

It is Kareena's film altogether, and one's heart indeed goes out to this oh-so-pure-at-heart Sikhni! Nowhere does she go overboard, which is so easy to achieve in the kind of role that she portrays. Possibly this is what makes her and SRK so endearing in this and Swades, Chak De respectively.

Poor Tarun Arora! At some points in the movie (despite his role being a kinda' filler), your heart goes out to the 'villain-ish' lover-boy. But I guess that's how you pay for, for not being sincere in pyar!

Shahid Kapoor - has a lot of talent and looks... plus his inimitable dancing skills, sure make it a bundle of the right formula for this boy to go a long way... only one suggestion: Stop being SRK!
And for once though, he didn't go overboard, thus creating the right pace for his controlled performance.

For all peace-loving souls who won't mind dwelling in a mushy-mushy love story, this one's worth a dekko.

My verdict: 3.5 out of 5 :)
