"A Wednesday" (4.25 stars out of 5)

'Commissioner Prakash Rathore'! Hats off to such people in the Indian Police. It is so reveling to see Indian cinema celebrate the honesty and brilliance of our police force. Now, haven't we had enough already, of the eternal bribee; the obscene and rustic policewalah; the sloth-in-uniform, time and again - that is almost always made a mockery of... This sure is a welcome change from the rest of 'em, atleast on this front, to say the least.

And then, what can one say about Naseeruddin Shah - one of THE FINEST actors globally, who for some strange ways of Bollywood, has been wasted (though he chooses NOT TO) - and one can only hope to see more of this invaluable kohinoor that we possess.

His performance is so 'into-the-skin' of the 'useless common man' - and personally, I would have thought though, that this - or "The Last Lear" - would have been a sure winner (yes, you read that right) - at the 2009 Academy Awards.

Jimmy Shergill and Aamir Bashir - were they ex-police officers - ;) - such intense roles played to subtle perfection - anyday, it is nice to see people just going about their roles without too many shenanigans or over-the-top scenes.

Though I watched "A Wednesday" on a Tuesday evening, I feel so glad to be writing about it on a Wednesday. :)

We need more of such realistic themes - that has "Jaago - common man - jaago" written all over it. It is indeed a fitting tribute to the force within the common Indian, that cannot just dismiss the threats to everyday life, due to some crazy and ulterior motives out there.

The director's due-diligence and homework into the finest of details is very much visible in the whole movie. Excellent script, screenplay, and performances, besides some very good direction.

Giving away the story would be like giving it all - imagine being told who the killer is, in a who-dunnit-thriller (still remember the day I had this friend tell me who the culprit was, when I was just stepping into the theater - to watch Gupt!) - and I wouldn't want you to go through any such thing. LOL - but trust me, if you are a fan of any kind of cinema, and like a short one at that - take a leap - and go watch this for yourself. :)

Way to go, Neeraj Pandey! A big Hurrah to you!

Hey, keep the reviews coming! I'm tired of American movies and want something good. Though I have to say I really enjoyed Moonrise Kingdom. It wasn't a typical American Movie though.
