"Cocktail" review - DP DP everywhere, not a chance to blink! :-)

When was the last time you watched a movie and just felt like you were part of the script!? All these days, I had heard a lot about the movie and finally (!) got to watch it last night.

Deepika is endearing, in possibly her best role thus far. She is terrific and almost effortless in managing the thin line between a rich, spoilt brat and a forlorn lover and friend.

Saif Ali Khan should possibly stop acting in Illuminati Films' productions. It's getting old watching him play such Casanova roles - though this one is passable compared to the Narcissistic Bullet Raja or the unworthy Humshakals. I wondered if a different S_K - Salman-wala (or SRK instead of SAK) would have made it a bigger hit, commercially.

Dimple Kapadia is a natural and lovable; I wonder if any other director has utilized her as effectively as Homi. Boman is pleasing too, and the thing with actors like him that is you'd almost miss them as they're so at ease with the characters they portray.

Filmed by the super-talented Homi Adajania, it depicts some good direction (pun intended), till the very end, when it gets to be a formulaic cliché. I was reminded of "Vicky Christina Barcelona", though, somewhere in between, with the way the story was going.

Preetam's music is thoroughly enjoyable and classy; in fact the best soundtrack I've heard in a long-long time.

Diana Penty is increasingly attractive to look at. And very, very impressive. It's actually hard to believe that this was her first movie. I think after Kareena, this is the first film in which I fell in love with a desi-girl on screen.

So you like Meera and fall for Deepika's acting.

DP: Diana (a)P(l)enty
DP: Deepika Padukone.

DP DP everywhere, not a 'drop' to blink! But by the end of the tale, it was more like KLPD...!!! "Cocktail" is good almost 80% into the pitcher. And then, I'm not sure if Homi and Imtiaz Ali ran out of ideas, as it suddenly turns into a concocted mocktail. I'll still go with 3 out of 5 for it's refreshing tipsy ride.
