"Plus" Kannada film review - nice concept, but a pathetic implementation...

Life is all about converting the negatives to the positives. That is the message that Gadda Viji desires to deliver, through our protagonist Anant Nag. Wait a minute, atleast that is the impression in the first half.

Things get more erratic post intermission when the director cooks up a revenge saga, following murder and betrayal in friendship.

The story also involves three youths - two men and a woman - each suffering from different psychological disorders  - MisophoniaNarcissistic Personality  Disorder (NPD) and Hemophobia. The preview (and the beginning of the film) gave me an impression that this one has messages from Rhonda Byrne's The Secret. Only to be misled completely, not even half way through.

Gadda Viji seemed to have cooked up an interesting concept, to start off with. But his implementation is worse than a C-Grade movie. The revenge murder theme in the 2nd half of the movie brought back fond memories of  this gem directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao, back in 1989, "Apoorva Sagodharargal". However, the murder tactics looks more than shoddy. And the filmmaker tries too many things and takes off in multiple directions, losing control of both the plot and the audiences, by the beginning of the 2nd half.

Ravishankar, as the demon Rankasura, is terrific and seems to have made very good use of the opportunity, here. He sends his son to earth and comes looking for him himself after 28 years to assess how his son has fared in the task of avenging his Nemesis from the past, now Jai in today's times, a big-shot industrialist.

Anant Nag eases through his role, but wears a really funny wig in the flashback scenes... and they should've casted a younger actor that resembled him, or made better use of make-up and technology.

It was nice to see Rajesh Nataranga, after seeing him play a decent role in Kendasampige, but sadly he is just filling up some screen space and a couple of reels, here, without adding any value to the story.

The Sound Design by Gopi is annoying in most places, and Bharath BJ's music is decent, but songs just come into play unnecessarily. Sachina Heggar's costumes are colorful and gaudy in places.

Suresh Arumugam's editing may have been good, but the story is too effed-up.

As I was walking out of the theater, I was still not totally disappointed. I was thinking that this movie could be remade, like how Karan Johar took Agneepath and remade it to make it a blockbuster; though I like the Amitabh version, anyday!

My verdict: 1.5 out of 5 stars.
